Contribution and sacrifice of medical doctors in pandemic
The recent
outbreak of COVID -19 in Wuhan turned into a public health emergency of
international concern with no antiviral drugs nor vaccines, and the presence of
carriers without obvious symptoms, traditional public health intervention
measures are significantly less effective. On the basis of one Health Model, it is proposed that veterinarians & animal specialists should be involved in a
cross-disciplinary collaboration in the fight against this pandemic.
Almost all the
sectors are affected in this pandemic but the medical sector is a very high
risk. As corona-virus cases continue to surge, the health care workers have needed to
stay agile and quickly adjust to the alarming new reality. Medical workers continue to put their health at risk and do what they can to help their
patients recover.
This pandemic has completely uprooted the medical worker’s personal lives and redefined what’s normal. An article in the ‘European Respiratory Journal" takes of high- risk emergencies situations, where "the doctor is subject to many number of competing duties: 1) a duty to patients; 2) a duty to protect oneself from undue risk of harm; 3) a duty to one's family; 4) a duty to colleagues whose workloads and risk of harm will increase in one’s absence; & 5) a duty to society." During a disease outbreaks, health care workers put their own safety at risk to care for others. If doctors and nurses start to get sick in high numbers, it can hamstring the medical system

Director-General Tedros Adhanom “COVID-19 is revealing how fragile many of the
world's health systems and services are, foreign countries to make difficult choices
on how to best meet the needs to their people.”
Many health
workers have lost their lives serving the patients with COVID-19. Doctors just
not only treat the patient, but they also contribute to researching the
antiviral therapy. Nurses need to take care of patients during isolation even
keeping themselves at risk. Likewise, MLSS also contribute by always
maintaining cleanliness and hygiene around the hospitals. This is why medical
workers have a great role in combating these situations.
